We are here today with Jennifer Delgado, one of the students in the first cohort of Creative Hub’s
Digital Marketing Bootcamp Program. Jennifer is a content writer and she is a career changer from legal
to content writing.

A Bitcoin conference got me my first job as a content writer

Creative Hub: Jennifer, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? You hold a Bachelor in Communications but you work as a content writer? How did this career change happen? And how difficult was it to change careers?

Jennifer: This change happened because I always wanted to be a journalist or writer, but my university only offered journalism courses with a Communications Degree. This ended up being beneficial however because besides learning about journalism I also learned about other Communication related fields such as
Marketing and Public Relations. I got my first role as a fashion technology content writer by going to a
Bitcoin conference where I networked with different professionals and told them about my writing
aspirations. This is how I was offered my first role as a tech content writer. It wasn’t as challenging as I
thought in terms of hard work, but instead was challenging in having to be brave and put myself out there
and network with strangers despite shyness.

A great content writer keeps track of marketing details

Creative Hub: How does one become a great content writer?

Jennifer: Although I am still young in my content writing career, I feel that one becomes a great content writer by knowing your audience, keeping track of marketing details such as read or increased readership, and by networking with as many experienced content writers as possible.

Responding to media requests is beneficial for PR teams and their clients

Creative Hub: On your profile I saw that you mostly write about luxury brands and Web3 and you recently guest-blogged Bella Hadid’s NFT drop. How does one reach such celebrities?

Jennifer: One can reach celebrity’s teams by contacting their PR representatives! All celebrities have Public
Relations publicists or other PR specialists that you can contact to get in touch with the people that
represent the celebrity or public figure. It is beneficial for them to reply to media requests because they
want stories concerning their client to be as widespread as possible.

Mastering effective SEO and short-form video editing

Creative Hub: Apart from content writing do you use any other digital marketing tools?

Jennifer: I am currently learning to use a special un-released form of Chat GPT and prompt engineering for both brain-storming and writing parts of initial rough drafts for content. I am also now under-taking learning
how to perform SEO effectively and learning how to edit short form videos.

The digital shift demands that content writers master online promotion and marketing strategies

Creative Hub: Why did you choose to enroll in the Digital Marketing Bootcamp program?

Jennifer: I chose to enroll in this program because as a digital journalist/writer it is now imperative for us in this profession to learn how to market ourselves and market our content, as the era of physical magazines is largely over and most people consume content digitally. Therefore, in order to get people to read our
content and be paid by advertisers or subscribers it is essential that we market our writing and our skillset
as much as possible through as many avenues as possible.

Content writers must master self-promotion to thrive in the digital landscape

Creative Hub: Do you think that it is beneficial for content writers to learn more aspects of digital marketing such as Social Media Ads or Email Marketing? Would that open more job opportunities?

Jennifer: Yes 1000% in this era it is imperative and essential for content writers to know how to market themselves to be able to increase their reach for job opportunities. The more people see your content whether it be on LinkedIn or social media, the more likely they are to reach out to you for a job opportunity. Otherwise you are writing to an empty audience.

By the end of the program, I aim to accomplish three key goals

Creative Hub: What are the outcomes that you personally would like to see at the end of the program?

Jennifer: I would love to get the necessary knowledge to achieve at least 100 subscribers on my Substack, 1,000 followers on TikTok, and two freelance assignments from marketing lessons I learn in this bootcamp.
